# Session 1: Boxes
What You Will Learn
When you are ready to start the activity, start the timer by clicking the button. This time is just a suggestion. Do the same thing for all the other puzzle boxes.
- Think, and add short keywords to Table A. Spend no more than 5 minutes on this.
- Click on the "Help" tab to see what what alumni thinks. If these encounters with them created new thoughts in you, update your list.
- In Table A, add numbers next to each keyword to show its priority.
- Re-write the list in Table B. You are free to create your own categories (headings). Make this a sorted list, placing the most important keyword on the top.
This is what Memo (Venezuela) thinks.
Read what Mert (Bosnia), Paul (Germany), Musab (Pakistan), and Pi (Myanmar) thinks in this Google Doc.
Your list is unique to you. What --- or who --- shaped your ways of thinking?
You will re-visit this memory capsule at the end of your two years. At that time, perhaps what is most interesting is not whether you have accomplished these goals, but if they remain important to you. Would you have discovered other values in these two years?
Organizing Google Drive
Check that you are signed in to Google Drive with your College email address.
Create folders with the following structure:
In "Shared with me", drag "Student View" into your chemistry folder.
Search the chem Google Drive to answer the following questions.
You have access to ___ years of IB past papers.
The chemistry textbooks is divided into ___ PDF files.
The graduate's comments (previous puzzle) is contained in a folder named ___.
Install the Google Drive File Stream application on your computer. This synchronizes the Cloud and local content, and you can then access your Google Drive when you are offline.
Are there other setup you can do now, so that your College life becomes more organized later?
Hint: the same structure also works for emails and stuff in real life.
Do I care you know how many chapters are in the textbook? Of course not. But you would have seen some other folders while searching for the answers, and that is the point. Jon is sneaky like that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Note that the next instruction is heavy (about 30 minutes). Take a break, get a drink of water, and if you don't have much time remaining to complete it, consider trying it at another time.
Google Sheets Setup and Naming-of-Parts
Open this Google Sheet, and make your own editable copy (File, Make a Copy). Then find the answers to the following puzzles.
- C4
- Rainfall (in mm) on 2014.06.04
- Sum of J2:J4
- $AC$15
- Average temperature in 1900
- Sheet3!B2
- Search. Not everything is in the instruction.
- If you did not Make a Copy you will not be able to edit the spreadsheet. Some parts will then be difficult or impossible to complete.
- Is something hiding?
